Is a Kyphoplasty Procedure right for me?

Did you know that one of the most common injuries resulting from aging is also one of the most common work place accidents?

Aging and work accidents, the first completely unavoidable, the second often just as inescapable.
Both can cause incidences of Spinal Compression Fractures. Luckily, they both also have a successful surgical option: Kyphoplasty.

What happens during a Kyphoplasty Procedure?

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery for treating spinal compression fractures. During the procedure a narrow tube is inserted inside the fractured vertebrae, through which an orthopedic balloon is inflated. The balloon returns the collapsed vertebrae to its original height, and quick-drying bone cement is injected into the cavity. By creating this internal cast, the affected vertebrae are stabilized and restored to their original height.

The procedure is so minimally invasive that most patients are able to return home the same day. Kyphoplasty is most effective when performed within eight weeks of receiving the spinal fracture.

Kyphoplasty for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is common bone disease reported in approximately 3 million people per year. As we age our body begins to lose bone mass, resulting in a weakening of the bones (in particular the spine, wrist, and hip). This weakness creates bones that are easily susceptible to breaks and fractures. If the case is serious enough even something as small as a sneeze can cause a break.

Kyphoplasty is the best and most minimally invasive option for restoring your mobility and reducing pain if you have experienced a spinal compression fracture caused by the weakening of spinal vertebrae from osteoporosis.

Kyphoplasty for Workplace Accidents

Spinal fractures are one of the most common injuries that occur from slip and fall accidents, and approximately 20% of all lost work time due to injury results from slips and falls. If a member of your workforce has fractured their spine due to a workplace accident kyphoplasty is proving successful in returning workers to previous activity levels without extensive and costly physical therapy.
