The Hand Surgery team at The Gates Hand Center is led by Herbert Gates III, MD and Rannie AlSamkari, MD, who have over 46 years of combined experience treating orthopaedic hand and wrist problems. In addition to highly experienced hand surgeons, the Gates Hand Center has onsite dedicated Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) working alongside Dr. Gates and Dr. AlSamkari.

What is a Hand Surgeon?

Hand Surgeons are specialty trained Orthopaedic, Plastic, and General Surgeons that focus on managing problems involving the hand, wrist, and forearm. Hand Surgeons have additional training and Specialty Board Certification in Hand Surgery.

Dr. Gates and Dr. AlSamkari treat many hand and wrist issues without surgery. From conservative techniques such as cortisone injections and platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections under ultrasound guidance, to splinting and hand therapy. The Gates Hand Center employs a dedicated, experienced staff including Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) to help you return to your normal healthy lifestyle. When conservative measures fail and pain and decreased use of your hands persist, they offer surgical treatments to improve your pain and quality of life.
