Common Golf Injuries

Common Golf Injuries | NASA MRI Blog

With more than 80 championship golf courses in the Greater Naples area and a reputation as the golf capital of the world it comes as no surprise that many patients walk through our doors with polo shirts and sore shoulders. The shoulders are the workhorse of the body when it comes to golf, and they can be injured in many ways. Overuse, swinging too hard, arthritis, or an improper swing technique can all cause shoulder injuries. When your shoulder has been injured the most important thing is to let it rest. Mild to moderate injuries may simply require ice packs to reduce swelling and measures to increase blood flow to the area. Some injuries may require anti-inflammatory medication.

More serious shoulder injuries including rotator cuff tendonitis and bursitis will require the expertise of an orthopedic doctor. The Naples orthopedic surgeon at Neuroscience and Spine Associates provides expert care when your shoulder injury requires surgical treatment, but we find that most of our patients don’t require orthopedic surgery and can be treated with physical therapy, pain medication and other treatments.
